Our Story
History of an Italian HIGH-TECH PLAY
From a spin-off of the Politecnico di Torino and Milano, to a global player in energy storage, e-mobility and EV public fastcharging infrastructure: this is the transformation of NHOA.
Born in 2005 as Electro Power Systems (EPS), the company was under chapter 11 in 2013, and under the leadership of the CEO Carlalberto Guglielminotti, in 2014 completed a complex financial restructuring in record time and, in April 2015, was listed on Euronext in Paris with a market cap of 55 million euros.
Guglielminotti, born in 1983 – serial entrepreneur and venture capitalist, Young Global Leader 2020 of the World Economic Forum, with a double-degree in law, specialization in finance and philosophy and an MBA – who was entrusted with the task of winding-up the Company – believed in the great potential of the business, whose advanced technology hitherto had been directed exclusively to the telecommunications sector. Guglielminotti’s bet – which proved successful – was to pivot the business model and re-allocate the company’s know-how and patent portfolio to the energy and electric mobility sectors.
In January 2018, ENGIE, the global energy leader, acquired a majority stake of EPS for an Enterprise Value of over 108 million euros from its historic shareholders, and then subsequently launched the takeover bid on the French stock exchange leading it to acquire over 60% of EPS capital.
In April 2021 TCC, one of the leading industrial Taiwanese groups active in the battery manufacturing, announced the acquisition of the majority stake in Engie EPS for an Enterprise Value of 234 million euros, unfolding new horizons ahead for EPS, that on 20 July 2021 became NHOA.
In May 2021, from the fruitful collaboration between the eMobility division of NHOA and Stellantis, 4th global automaker, was born the joint venture Free2move eSolutions, which designs, produces in Italy and commercializes worldwide innovative products and services for electric vehicles.
In July 2021 NHOA and Stellantis launched Atlante, the first EV fast and ultra-fast charging network enabled by renewables, energy storage and 100% grid-integrated in Southern Europe.
Now NHOA, which reached in 2021 over 450 million euros market cap, has offices in France, Spain, US, Taiwan and Australia, and maintains R&D in its global engineering center in Milan, production and manufacturing in its industrial plant in Cosio Valtellino.
With over 500 People from 38 nationalities and a unique team of engineers, NHOA has filed 130 patents around the world and over 1,200 industrial secrets.
NHOA has three Global Business Units
NHOA designs and delivers turn-key energy storage systems to transform solar or wind farms into sustainable and available 24/7 energy sources.
Pioneer of microgrids with renewables and green storage systems, today NHOA is among the top 5 storage system integrators worldwide thanks to more than 15 years of experience. Among the most iconic projects, NHOA is deploying iconic utility-scale projects across Europe, America, Asia and Oceania, together with the projects already online powering over 500,000 people.
Through Free2Move eSolutions, the joint venture with Stellantis, NHOA develops innovative technologies and solutions to tear down the barriers for electric mobility diffusion for both private and business customers.
The offer ranges from charging devices (residential, commercial, industrial and public) to the technology allowing electric vehicles to become a valuable source for National grids (Vehicle-to-Grid, V2G). Free2Move eSolutions offers also services which allow their clients to recharge their vehicles at home or on the streets at a fixed monthly fee based on the mileage covered, without buying devices or bill increases.
Atlante is the first EV Fast and Ultra-fast Charging Network enabled by renewables, energy storage and 100% grid-integrated.
Thanks to its unique technological features that optimize charging costs and vehicle-to-grid integration services, Atlante will offer EV drivers the best ‘on-the-go’ fastcharging experience, while supporting the European grid. The 35,000 points of charge targeted for 2030, will be all interconnected constituting the largest Virtual-Power Plant worldwide. NHOA will develop and invest in Atlante as owner and operator, boosting the e-mobility transition starting from Southern Europe.
