Fast Reserve
Between 2022 and 2024, NHOA Energy commissioned four BESS in four different locations in Italy for ENGIE and Stellantis, all delivered within the framework of the ultra-rapid frequency regulation service pilot project, known as “Fast Reserve”, held by the Italian transmission operator Terna.
NHOA Energy affirmed its leadership as the preferred technology supplier, having delivered approximately 30% of the total capacity awarded for the pilot project.
The technology proposed for these projects features NHOA Energy’s proprietary HybridHouse containerized solution, which includes C-BESS1800 inverters and battery rack into an all-in-one solution, managed by NHOA Energy’s PROPHET control system.
The 31 MW Drossone project stands out among the lot, as it features a hybrid power plant comprising of a BESS coupled with a large-scale vehicle-to-grid (V2G) system, marking one of the first commercial implementations of this kind.
The integrated system successfully met the stringent conditions set by Terna for the Fast Reserve service, including automatic frequency response with reaction time below 300 ms, and a special system defense functionality (UPDM) featuring full power delivery at the Point of Connection within 150 ms after activation by the transmission system operator.
